The System Is Not Broken: A Skeptical Look at What's Really Going On

Updated: Oct 21, 2023

There is a very simple reason for the failure of our government charged with the great task set down in 'of, by and for" We, the People. The US is no longer a democracy, as has been elucidated in great detail and more eloquently than I could ever hope to. The major parties that control our country serve their own best interests, and so by direct extension, their financiers. It is important to merely give the impression of "doing something" to a small minority of the people. People who are still on the voting rolls in spite of widespread purges, haven't been forced out of the ranks of those who are allowed to participate in their constitutional right to vote by illegal poll taxes known as voter ID laws, and haven't been totally disenchanted with BOTH major parties into throwing their hands up and giving up. None of these things are by accident, and all work in concert to avoid REAL progress and the interests of the American people our government ostensibly serves. It serves both major parties to keep the people fighting for their very rights and fighting amongst each other while our resources, labor and freedom itself are being decimated. Good cop/bad cop has worked like a charm for the duopoly.

This is why I did not support, nor do I presently support, the thinly disguised insurance company bail out known as the ACA. While I know that people have benefited from the ACA, some even benefiting substantially, it was and is too late for half measures. Those half measures still exclude millions of American people who are still going bankrupt trying to cure themselves and/or their children and other family members, and are still dying for lack of healthcare in this, the "greatest health care system in the world". The ACA set real health care reform back decades by giving the impression (here is that word again) that health care for the masses has been solved. In no way is this true. Instead of trying to actually get real change, the people who vote for or lean towards the Democrats are distracted with defending a program that does not do enough, could have been done much better, and was purposely made that way. It may be your understanding that the ACA was passed with the help of conservatives. This is also a misconception. Not a single Republican voted for it. It is entirely the work of the Democratic party machine. As for the Republican voters, they have the honor of seeing their elected representatives try again and again to repeal this program they’ve demonized since the first time Obama revealed his plan. The funny thing? Before Obama, several conservatives championed many aspects of it long before Obama. All the while, neither side is served by politicians who are quick to keep this divisive issue (among others they have no intention of solving) front and center. Each side zealously appeals to those depending on them by denigrating the “opposition” as evil and contemptible. They will stand up and spout whatever they think will make you (whichever side you support) at all costs keep those vile excuses for human beings from ruining our country. They stir up emotion and assure their followers expend the little energy both sides make damned sure persists, hating and fighting each other...and not in the direction of corporate America who are robbing us blind with the full cooperation of those self same politicians. It is another distraction to keep the people busy trying to keep their basic rights, let alone better their collective circumstances. Meanwhile, everyone on both sides continues to lose their money, health and, yes, their lives.

Single payer would eliminate a substantial amount of waste and inefficiencies, as well as guaranteeing an end to the travesty of our people dying in the streets while corporations, including the insurance industry, Big Pharma and multiple industries that accompany them make record profits. But there is very little profit in actually curing people. No, that money comes from treating them on an ongoing basis their entire lives. Contrary to popular opinion, this broken system is not really broken...it accomplishes exactly what it’s meant to: keeping money at the top and everyone else at the bottom.

*Take note that I cite both liberal and conservative sources. There are people on both sides that acknowledge the truth, though sometimes for different reasons.
